WHAT IS PINK PLACES?

Pink Places is a company run by experienced property and development professionals set up to provide a new style of community and lifestyle choice for older gay people in the UK.  Pink Place is about providing a place where gay people can live active lives, with the support of friends, getting old disgracefully with other gay people.  It is about real communities and homes, designed for and with gay people who will know and support each other and be part of each other’s lives. Pink Places is about older gay people living together and living their lives to the full

SO, WHAT'S THE BIG IDEA?

Retirement communities are everywhere now in the UK, but intentionally or not they are not exactly gay friendly.  We think gay people will expect something at least as good as the heterosexual population have, but different.  Pink Places is about putting our own spin on getting older and making sure we make our older age a happy, active, secure and contented time.

For gay people our friends are as much our family as any biological tie. That means we don’t just live want to next to people, but we want to be part of the neighbourhood.  We don’t want our spaces to feel old and institutional, we want to be active, unconventional and irreverent.  We want to be in control of the way we live and be part of the way things are run.   We don’t want to be isolated from the rest of the gay community and want to be able to carry on going to bars and clubs or however else we prefer to get involved in local gay life.

WHAT WILL IT INCLUDE?

We are building a village with high quality individual homes, from flats to detached houses with great design and maximum use of environmentally friendly materials and services.  They will range from 3 bed to 1 bed.  The village will have shared facilities, including a club house with a bar, kitchen and dining spaces; entertainment, exercise and activities spaces; a wonderful garden, with space to grow your own food if you want to.  The village will be made up of communities of around 25-30 defined areas with some shared spaces.  Some will be just for women and some just for men, others mixed according to the preferences of residents.    There will also be the option to have a holiday home allowing potential residents to get to know the village before they move in, or just to be part of the social life.

WHERE IS IT?

Pink Places wants to be somewhere where we are part of and accepted by the wider community.  If we can secure the right site we want to locate the village near to Brighton where the gay community is strongly established and accepted and with access to bars and other amenities.

WHEN WILL IT HAPPEN?

As soon as we can, but we can’t put a date on it yet.  Please register your interest and we will keep you posted and feel free to give us a call.
